The Hayner Academy Barnstormers is the travel baseball program of the Hayner Brothers Baseball Academy. Our base of operations is The Sports Barn, our 18,700 square foot training facility located in Halfmoon, NY. We are located just off Interstate 87 about ten miles north of Albany and 20 miles south of Saratoga Springs.
The Barnstormers program was established in 2000. For six years we operated as a fall season only travel program fielding teams at the 13u, 14u, 15u 16u and 18u levels. In August 2013, we re-established the Barnstormers as an 18u summer travel program. Players in our program have the opportunity to train with us during three seasons - fall, winter and summer. For 2018, we will be offering highly competitive teams at the 18u, 17u and 15u levels.
Currently, 21 former Barnstormer players are playing college baseball and five of those at the NCAA Division I level. For our Barnstormer players graduating high school in 2017 or 2018 , nine have college commits including three at the Division I level. We build our teams position by position and select players and families that will fit into a team environment. Unlike other "showcase teams", players in our program play only in our program. Our goal is an atmosphere that is conducive to fun, skill development and competitiveness. It is our belief that in this kind of environment players play their best. It also makes for an experience that models the team environment expected by college coaches.
To play college baseball a player needs baseball tools and skills as well as the personal and academic characteristics that fit a college coaches recruiting profile. Our mission is to help our players continue to develop their baseball profile and thus improve their college opportunities. In addition to three season training we play the most competitive tournaments and independent teams that we can. Typically our teams play in such prestigious tournaments as the Diamond Nation Super 17 Invitational in Flemington, NJ, the Boston Invitational at the New England Baseball Complex and the Sports Zone Invitational in Rome, NY. These tournaments provide our players with a big stage to perform in front of a host of college coaches against elite competition. We also schedule to play elite travel programs like Team Connecticut Baseball, the Taconic Rangers and Grow to Pro out of Rochester to provide extra games and complete our 37 game schedule.
In four seasons of competition our 17u/18u team coached by Hayner Academy Co-owner Ken Hayner (2016 18u Jesse Braverman), has accumulated an overall record of 96 wins, 47 losses and 9 ties. We have also captured six tournament championships.
2014 - OCC Wood Bat Battle Tournament Champions held at RIT
2016 - PBR Rochester Elite 17u Tournament Champions held at Brockport State
2016 - Empire Cup Tournament Champions held at various fields in the Capital Region.
2016 - Monsters of the Mohawk Tournament Champions - Scotia
